What is a Centrum Artist Residency?

Shericohenresidency_3 Established in 1980, Centrum’s residency program is a rich community of artists creating new work here at Fort Worden State Park. By providing time, housing, and studio resources, Centrum serves individual artists and groups of artists in the development of this new work.

Our residencies are open to artists, thinkers, activists, performers —anyone involved in creative endeavors. A residency may involve either the solitary creative work of an individual or the interactive work of a group. It can focus on a single genre or be multidisciplinary. A residency may involve active engagement with other Centrum programs, artists, and communities, or it may serve as a reflective retreat.

Residencies are awarded in one week blocks. There is no discount for short stays. Individual residencies (one person per dwelling) are $275 per week. For collaborative residencies (with more than one creative resident in a single dwelling) there is an additional charge of $25 per week per person. Meals and transportation are not included in this cost.

As a Centrum resident you also have the opportunity to work with Corvidae Press, Synergy Sound Studio, and Copper Canyon Press, all located here at Fort Worden State Park. Corvidae Press is a fully equipped non toxic printmaking studio. Synergy Sound Studio records music, poetry, and interviews, using an all digital Macintosh based system. Copper Canyon Press is a nationally acclaimed publisher of poetry, with an impressive list of award winning titles and authors. Residents wishing to work with these Centrum partners need to make arrangements directly with them. Please indicate your interest in your application materials so we may provide you with current contact information and costs.
