In Memoriam: The Legacy of Bob Florence

We are saddened to learn that our friend and long-time faculty member Bob Florence died Thursday, May 15. Bob was a wonderful and warm person, and a gifted musician and educator. His piano playing was always fresh and innovative, prompting younger musicians to seek him out.

Bob had a stellar reputation as a composer and arranger, and was slated to lead this summer’s All-Star Big Band in a concert of his music. Instead, Kim Richmond, faculty member and lead alto player in Bob’s band, will direct the All Stars in a tribute to Bob.

Our hearts go out to Bob’s loving wife and companion, Evie, and their family. We’re deeply grateful for the many years they spent at Centrum, always bringing with them smiles and a love of life and music. The rich musical and personal legacy Bob has left will be felt at Centrum for a long, long time.
