Liminal Spaces and Creative Process

Liminal_2 Goddard College’s MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts program presents a free lecture by Haruko Okano titled “Liminal Spaces and Creative Process.” The lecture will take place Sunday, March 2, at 7:30pm in the USO Hall at Fort Worden. The event is free.

"In quantum physics, the wave theory states that at a certain point in a range of probabilities, one becomes a visual reality. That reality precipitates a whole new range of probabilities and is known as 'popping the quiff.'

Popping the quiff is commonly experienced by both scientists and artists. It is in that “a ha moment” that Joseph Campbell believed art could have a catalytic impact."  --Haruko Okano

Haruko Okano is an interdisciplinary artist with over 30 years experience. Her art practice focuses on the 3 R's of Reduce, Recycle and Reuse with an emphasis on natural detritus materials. Her creative process cross-pollinates from her studio practice, to community-engaged projects and into the field of experiential learning.

The Mafia is Coming to Fort Worden

...but we don't expect crime to increase. "Mafia" is the shorthand term for Goddard College's MFA-IA program, the Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, starting at Fort Worden this August.

The MFA-IA program is about art across boundaries. It's about blurring the boundaries between film, writing, painting, dance, theater, and video. It's about genre-busting and freedom of expression.

Instead of marginalized artists at the edge of civic life, the Goddard vision is of artists playing a greater role in society, contributing to the progressive transformation of society and the welfare of communities. In partnership with Centrum, Goddard offers a low-residency MFA in Creative Writing at Fort Worden.
Goddard College's low-residency programs are committed to self-directed education. In keeping with this commitment, your needs, goals, and passions as a writer determine your course of study in the MFA in Creative Writing Program. Students may choose to work in the areas of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, memoir, playwriting, screenwriting, or cross genre. We welcome and encourage work in more than one genre, and we urge you to experiment with new kinds of writing and push your limits.
