Soul Motion™ Week at Madrona MindBody: September 8-15, 2011

Inspired by the work of Vinn Marti, Madrona MindBody Institute is hosting a SOUL MOTION™ Week, September 8-15, 2011 at their beautiful campus at Fort Worden State Park.

These special classes are taught by the 2010/11 Soul Motion™ apprentices in the Soul Motion™ Leadership Program, who are in their final module of a 3 module (24 nights total) residency at Madrona.

Celebrate this conscious dance movement practice; dive right in and pencil out this week to dance with an international dance community. 

Drop in: $5    Work-trade scholarships also available.

As of July 2011, the State of Washington implemented the Discover Pass at all Washington State Parks, including Fort Worden. Be assured that if you are coming to the Fort for a Centrum, Port Townsend School of Woodworking, Madrona MindBody Institute, Port Townsend Marine Science Center, or any event detailed above, The Discover Pass is not required.

However, we encourage people to buy a pass to help keep the LEARNING and enjoyment of state parks open and accessible to the public.

Friday Night Flick at the Fort - RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK

Everyone is invited to attend the third and final Friday Night Flicks at the Fort featuring the movie, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK on August 19th on Littlefield Green at the McCurdy Pavilion. 

Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets while you sit under the stars and enjoy this family favorite.  There is a suggested donation of $5 to help support the movies.  The gates open at 8:30 pm and the movie begins around 9:15 pm.   

This is event is exempt from the Discover Pass access fee.

Jazz Port Townsend, July 24 - July 31, 2011

Be you an aspiring professional, a committed avocational player, or simply a fan, the week long Jazz workshop at Fort Worden, July 24 - July 31, 2011, is the perfect place to be! 

In addition to the amazing mainstage performances at McCurdy Pavilion, Jazz Port Townsend features 3 nights of jazz in more intimate environs. We call it Jazz in the Clubs, and it is a signature element of the Festival.

In new and historic venues throughout Port Townsend, national and regional jazz artists come together in performance combos that you cannot find anywhere else - musicians are selected and grouped by Artistic Director John Clayton.

Friday Night Flicks at the Fort

This summer, we are trying a new addition for our guests and visitors enjoyment of Fort Worden State Park.

Thanks to a partnership with Lunar Flicks, and event sponsors Vintage Hardware and Port Townsend Paper, Fort Worden is pleased to offer our second movie under the stars.

The film is FREE; donations gladly accepted.

Friday, July 22nd enjoy Steven Spielberg's "The Goonies."

Besides fun and games, there will be plenty of opportunity to learn about and purchase your Discover Pass (your ticket to Washington's great outdoors!)

Bring blankets and low profile beach chairs. Bring the whole family! The inflatable movie screen will be set up in front of the double doors at McCurdy Pavilion; guests will enjoy the film from the lawn of Littlefield Green.

Gates open 8:30 pm, the movies will start around 9:15 pm.

Fiddle at Fort Worden!

As Centrum's weeklong Festival of American Fiddle Tunes gathering winds to a close, the artist faculty are set to take the stage for two performance showcases on Friday, July 8, 2011 and Saturday, July 9, 2011.

July 4th at Fort Worden

From Sunday, July 3 through Sunday, July 10, Centrum's Festival of American Fiddle Tunes features workshop classes, dances, concerts, and informal and spontaneous gatherings of novice and master fiddlers.

The festival’s public performance takes place on Monday, July 4 in McCurdy Pavilion with “The Fourth at the Fort,” a two-concert event featuring artists from the festival and ending with fireworks on the bluff – a Port Townsend tradition.

Visitors to Fort Worden State Park for the Fourth of July fireworks show can park their vehicle for free this year, but by next year, much will have changed at Fort Worden, and at all of Washington state’s parks, as the Discover Pass goes into effect July 1st. The July 4 fireworks show (funded by the City of Port Townsend) and other special events that day at Fort Worden are open without the Discover Pass required, said Fort Worden Area Parks Manager Kate Burke.

Use of fireworks within Port Townsend city limits is banned. Possession or discharge of any fireworks is illegal within city limits as well as State Parks. There is a public fireworks display off the Fort Worden State Park beach at 10 p.m. July 4.
