Mornings are devoted to workshops in stringed instruments, mostly fiddle, and some singing and dance. The intended focus of these morning sessions is on the faculty members’ regional and personal style and repertoire. All faculty members will give four morning workshops during the week, open to any participant.
Afternoons offer two choices:
- Band Labs – Each faculty person will lead a band lab during the week. Participants join the faculty member of their choice to form a band, and learn tunes in the style of that player. Band labs meet four times during the week, for two hours, and then play for dancers on Friday night and for the climactic band concert on Saturday morning. There is also a “Baby Band Lab,” for people who would like a band experience but who are beginners on their instruments.
- Tutorials – these classes are designed to address the needs of beginning and beginning/intermediate players who wish more individualized instruction on their instrument. The tutorials are generally small, allowing for personal attention. In most cases, tutors are selected for each style offered by the faculty. This year, for example, there will be tutors who will specifically address the needs of beginning Cajun fiddlers, beginning Quebecois fiddlers, etc. Please see the Artist/Faculty link for the complete tutorial list.
Evenings feature intimate faculty concerts in the Joseph F. Wheeler Theater, including the vastly entertaining Participants’ Concert. Splendid social dancing takes place in two dance halls, and all of this is stirred with a full load of night-long jamming and impromptu parties.
