“I can't thank you and Centrum enough for the opportunity for so many kids to fall in love with Fiddle Tunes. I know that they are the future for sure. Along with the Kid's Band which was one of the best, it was pretty special to be playing in a Band Lab with your daughter and grandson.”Centrum has long incorporated young people into the Fiddle Tunes community, and as more and more youngsters and families attend the event, the kids programming has evolved as well. We devote considerable resources to this end. Here’s what it looks like.
U-18: People under eighteen years of age must attend the workshop with a registered parent, or a registered adult guardian assigned by their parent. The accompanying adult pays the full tuition and can fully participate in all workshop offerings. With the exceptions outlined below, classes are not designed with younger people in mind. However, proficient and experienced U-18’s are fully welcomed, and have generally had a good experience at Fiddle Tunes. U-18 tuition is $425. There is a limit of 60 U-18 slots at the workshop.
The Kid’s Track in 2010 is a morning-only program aimed towards people from the ages of 5-12 or so, running from 9:30 - 12:30 each day (Sunday - Thursday). Kid’s Track tuition is $100. There is a limit of 45 Kid’s Track slots. Housing is not offered as an option for Kid’s Track registrants
Parents considering registering their child in the Kid’s Track do not need to register for the workshop, but they should be prepared to check in their child between 9:15 and 9:30, and check out their child at 12:30.
The Kid’s Track includes two workshop sessions:
- 9:30 - 11am: Fiddling for Kids. Young participants will be broken into four groups based on ability, starting at the VERY beginning (“here’s how to hold a bow”). Every effort is made to integrate the more advanced groups with the styles of music of the faculty at Fiddle Tunes.
- 11 - 12:30: Kids have two choices in this time slot: either
- Play party games with Dina Blade and Melanie Luedders
or - The Kids Band Lab - a youngster’s band will be formed during the course of the week. This band will be directly aligned to one of the faculty members’ styles, and will play for a dance and in the band lab concert at the end of the week.
- Play party games with Dina Blade and Melanie Luedders
